The first meeting of the Community Transition Team took place on September 23.
The goals of the Team are to help employees of both Canfor and their contractors transition to other jobs using known employment opportunities, apply for grants and funding for retraining programs, and help with health or mental health issues which may arise from job loss.
This introductory meeting was held to get groups together to begin this process. Representatives from the following groups attended:
Canfor – Plateau, College of New Caledonia, Community Futures Stuart Nechako, Connexus Community Resources, District of Vanderhoof, Hubspace, Ministry of Forests, Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, Northern Development Initiative Trust, Northern Health – Nechako, Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, Saikāuz First Nation, Service BC, Service Canada, SkilledTradesBC, United Steel Workers Local 1-2017, Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce, Village of Fraser Lake, and WorkBC.
The next meeting of the Community Transition Team is scheduled for October 15.
