Governance and Priorities

Advocacy Initiatives Update – February 2022
Council received the Advocacy Initiatives Update – February 2022 for information.

Riverside Campground Washhouse Renovations
Following up on the previous discussion had from the March 7th Special Council Meeting, Council commented positively on the condition of the current Riverside Campground Washhouse. From staff reporting, the Washhouse is in good condition and will only require improvements versus the need to construct a new washhouse building, which changes the scope of the project and will cost less than originally budgeted for.
Result: Council directed staff to revise the scope of the Riverside Campground Washhouse project to include only critical improvements, and to keep the unused surplus funds in the capital budget to be used to offset potential higher costs in road capital projects for 2022.

YMCA of Northern BC Reports
Council discussed the monthly reports given from the YMCA of Northern BC regarding the Child Care Centre at the Integris Community Centre, and the Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre. Through the discussion, there was concern on the staffing shortages at the Aquatic Centre, and questions on the operation between the Integris Community Centre and the Aquatic Centre.
Result: Council directed staff to invite a representative from the YMCA to come to talk at a future Council meeting to talk about operating plans for the upcoming year, and the staffing shortages at the Aquatic Centre.

Building Permit Report
Council acknowledged the opening of Parkview Place sometime next week and the region-wide recognition the building has received. Because Parkview Place has received more applicants than rooms available, Council discussed the need to know how residents would be picked and wishes the information to be better communicated to the community.

Fire Department Report
Council had no comments on the Fire Department’s report.
