Through the first few weeks of 2025, Council has been busy meeting with Ministers and other stakeholders on key issues, including the state of the forestry industry, our local economy and some of the opportunities we have moving forward.
On January 9, Minister of Forests Ravi Parmar visited Vanderhoof, meeting with Council, touring Nechako Lumber and joining our Town Hall meeting at Nechako Valley Secondary School. Then, on January 13, our Natural Resource Committee met with the Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, Randene Neill.
Mayor Moutray and Councillors Bulmer, Frenkel, Van Dolah and Young met with Premier David Eby on January 14 ahead of the BC Natural Resources Forum in Prince George. The Mayor and Councillors Frenkel and Van Dolah attended the Forum, meeting formally with Artemis Gold and Rio Tinto, as well as numerous other informal meetings with industry and government representatives. During the Forum, Councillor Frenkel was appointed to the BC Timber Sales review panel.
Finally, on January 16, Council met with the Minister of State for Local Government and Rural Communities, Brittny Anderson, to tour Vanderhoof and discuss challenges and opportunities facing our District.
