Pursuant to section 464(1) of the Local Government Act, the holding of a Public Hearing for proposed Official Community Plan Bylaw 1297, 2026 (OCP) is required. Council will consider public input into the bylaw at a Public Hearing scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2026 at 5:00 pm in Council Chambers at the Municipal Office, 160 Connaught Street, Vanderhoof.
In 2023 the Province of BC adopted the Housing Statutes (Residential Development) Amendment Act (Bill 44). That, and amendments to the Local Government Act, required local governments to update their Official Community Plan bylaws to ensure alignment with their housing needs reporting. The District of Vanderhoof has approached this 2026 OCP as an update to the 2020 Plan, as opposed to a complete rewrite. Section 1.2 of the proposed bylaw outlines the requirements of the new legislation.
Proposed Official Community Plan Bylaw 1297, 2026 is available for public inspection at the District of Vanderhoof Office located at 160 Connaught Street from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, except statutory holidays, or by requesting a copy via email to corporate@vanderhoof.ca. If you believe your property may be affected by this bylaw, you are invited to attend the February 9, 2026 Public Hearing and provide input to Council. If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to submit a written statement via email to corporate@vanderhoof.ca or regular mail to the Corporate Officer at District of Vanderhoof – Box 900, Vanderhoof BC V0J 3A0. Written statements must be received no later than Monday, February 9, 2026 at 4:30 PM.
