BC’s Housing Needs Reports help communities understand and address housing challenges by analyzing data on local demographics, incomes and housing stock, identifying gaps in housing supply and guiding strategies for sustainable growth and land use planning.
Municipalities are required to prepare an Interim Housing Needs Report by January 1, 2025, which projects housing needs over 5 and 20 years, then update official community plans (OCPs) and zoning bylaws by the end of 2025. These insights are key to creating inclusive, strategic housing policies tailored to the ever-changing needs of BC communities.
