The District of Vanderhoof announces two major sanitary system upgrades to improve long-term reliability and capacity
The District of Vanderhoof is proud to announce the Reid Road Sanitary Pump Station Replacement and New Sanitary Forcemain Installation projects, both funded under the Northwest BC Regional Funding Agreement and initiated by the Northwest Resource Benefits Alliance (RBA). This program is part of a $250 million, five-year investment designed to upgrade critical community infrastructure, build communities and improve the quality of life for residents across Northwest British Columbia.
Reid Road Sanitary Pump Station Replacement
A brand new pump station will replace the aging system on Reid Road. This upgrade will boost capacity and provide more reliable service for nearby homes and businesses.
New Sanitary Forcemain Installation
A new forcemain will be installed under the Nechako River, connecting the pump station to the system on Victoria Avenue. This new line replaces the aging pipe and ensures better service.
Both projects are made possible through a collaborative agreement between the Province and Northwest BC Resource Benefits Alliance (RBA). The funding is incremental to the municipality’s current property tax revenue, i.e. the project is not funded by property taxes.
“These upgrades are a big step forward for our community,” said Mayor Moutray. “The projects will help prevent breakdowns, reduce maintenance costs and make sure our system can keep up as Vanderhoof grows. It’s about building reliable infrastructure that supports residents now and in the future.”
Construction on the pump station starts July 25, 2025, with installation of the forcemain to follow later in the summer. The projects are expected to be complete by the end of October. Please watch for construction crews and temporary traffic disruptions during this work.

The Agreement provides dedicated funding for community infrastructure projects that meet critical needs—ranging from water and wastewater systems to public safety, transportation, and community facilities—while also supporting industrial growth and advancing reconciliation with neighboring First Nations.
